It was created in 1989, being Mr Fernando Menéndez Viejo its first director.

In 1990 the chorus makes their first debut in the Opera Season in Oviedo with the titles La Bohème and Don Pasquale, under the musical direction of Helena Herrera and Eugen Khon and the stage direction of Horacio Rodríguez Aragón and Emilio Sagi, respectively.

In 1993, Mr Luís García Santana becomes the director, performing La Traviata in the Teatro Palacio Valdés of Avilés, in Santander and in Bilbao.

Subsequently, the Opera Oviedo Chorus is invited to participate in the Zarzuela Opera Season, making their presentation with La Gran Via and Gigantes y Cabezudos. In the same season, in 1999, the chorus took part in the zarzuelas La Revoltosoa and La Verbena de la Paloma.

During their existence, the Opera Oviedo Chorus has taken part in more than forty operatic productions in the Italian, French, Germanic or Russian romantic repertoire.

In 2002, they record a CD of the Roméo et Juliet opera, by Charles Gounod, as a record label for RTVE Música (Spanish Radio-Television Music).

During the opera season 2004-2005, the Cuban director Mrs Helena Herrera was the holder of the formation.

From February 2005 onwards, Mr Francisco Javier Aizpiri Mújica is the new director of the Chorus.

In the same way, in the opera Season 2006 the post is occupied by the formation vocal trainer Mrs Lola Arenas.
